Our Programs & Initiatives

Training & Mentorship

ID254 provides educational support and mentorship to women and youth in Kenya. This includes career guidance and life skills training. The Tailoring and Fashion Design program offered by the Identity Two Five Four (ID254) organization in Kenya is designed to provide vocational training and job skills to young people who are interested in pursuing a career in the fashion industry. The program aims to equip participants with the skills, knowledge, and practical experience necessary to become successful tailors and fashion designers.

Entrepreneurship

ID254 supports the youth and women by offering business classes that helps them understand how to run their business once they are done with the course. It gives them information on SMEs, taxes, business management, how to join Saccos, the different business models et cetera.

Civic Engagement

ID254 works to promote civic engagement among young people in Kenya by providing opportunities for them to participate in community service, advocacy, and leadership activities. By participating in community service, ID254 instills a sense of belonging in the women. They are able to be part of something big and this will lead them to be change makers.

Mental Wellness

ID254 works to ensure that it provides the women in the program with a safe and supportive environment to learn and practice mental wellness. There is a lot of stigma surrounding mental illness, which can make it difficult for individuals to seek help. That’s why ID254 has ensued that there is access to care through a weekend program that allows them to have a session with a therapist in the woods. They get to heal in nature.

Our Focus On Women

Naturally women in Africa are known for their resilience being at the forefront of making their families lives better by engaging in small businesses. Mostly they can’t afford to be in sole proprietorships instead preferring to do it in groups commonly known as ‘chama’ in Kenya relying on informal merry-go-rounds as their source of funding. In this new normal of the Covid era SMEs are going under at an alarming rate and those that suffer most are women. To alleviate this problem one woman at a time, Identity 254 is committed to tackle income poverty as part of our women empowerment program. Addressing women empowerment will be through the following steps:

  • Identifying eligible women on the ground by reviving existing networks
  • Adult literacy and numeracy training custom-made for different categories of business
  • Advocate for women’s participation in the management of community affairs and development activities.
  • Identity 254 will create alliances, partnerships and coordination platforms consolidating national, county and subcounty levels to champion various issues of gender equality and women empowerment
  • Provision of micro-grants which are readily available unbeknownst to them. High level of illiteracy and structural problems pose challenges for them to benefit from existing government funds
  • Life skills training for women with emphasis on participation in intergenerational fora where girls will learn from the experiences of older women
  • Identity 254 will carry out capacity building, facilitation of mentorship and organizational development coupled with support

All these will accrue high income, better conditions in running their business, involvement in decision making both as beneficiaries and agents of change at community, national and international level. Such participation will yield respect, dignity and negotiate a fairer distribution of the benefits of growth.

Our Focus On The Youths

The youth are the engine of change, when empowered with the right opportunities in society they’ll derive an endless array of possibilities. With this in mind Identity 254 is creating safe spaces to thrive in solution-oriented programs that will give motivated but disenfranchised youth the skills and support they need to compete and succeed in life. Identity 254’s capacity building is geared towards self-reliance through training activities and workshops. The end goal is to turn the tide and uplift those missing out from being productive members of society. To begin with Identity 254’s core action is to gather quality disaggregated data on youth broken down into detailed sub-categories for example marginalized group, gender, region, level of education thus revealing deprivations and inequalities. This is essential for planning and designing youth programming and for accountability. Followed by meaningful engagement so the youth can voice their ideas to be part of the decision-making process and develop their leadership potential. We will recognize, utilize and develop their skill set based on existing knowledge of their capacities, qualification and interest through the following:

  • Vocational training
  • Business oriented skills for self-employment
  • Career counselling
  • Financial inclusion in various youth specific loan facilities
  • Gender equity programs to coach women on how to curb gender pay gap by being assertive and getting involved in leadership
  • Strategic partnerships for vocational training and job placements
  • Facilitate youth networking and information sharing through channels and structures easily accessible
